What makes this particular experience a unique adventure?

Although it’s the biggest dune in South Africa, the focus is on having fun! If you don’t feel confident enough to stand up on your board, you can also sit down or enjoy a belly ride. Although Billeon’s motto is ‘the less you know, the best’, you’ll be well prepared with a qualified introduction on how to sit, lie or stand on your board. The Dragon experience is a once in a lifetime opportunity and always manages to exceed all expectations.

How long does a trip take and what should you bring with you?

The duration of the trip is three hours and bookings must be made a day in advance. Bring closed shoes, sunscreen, a camera and drinks. The tour operators usually focus on morning sessions but afternoon trips can be arranged.

Can anyone do it?

Yes, Billeon caters for all age groups with the right equipment to suit each client according to their ability. Groups of up to 150 people have been accommodated in one session; even clients in their 70s have joined tours!

What precautions does Billeon take to ensure client safety?

Billeon has more than 10 years’ experience in sandboarding the Dragon with no fatal accidents, which we hope to keep that way. Our well-organized programme ensures that experienced instructors minimize the risk of accidents.

What is the difference between sand and snowboarding?

We’ve had many overseas snowboarding clients who’ve joined the group to rip down the sandy spine of Dragon Dune. Although it looks similar, sandboarding is quite different in terms of skills required. Even experienced snowboarders need to learn some techniques before attempting the Dragon.

Does Billeon provide the equipment needed?

All gear is provided for clients – including boards and helmets. To suit our experienced overseas clientele, we only use imported gear to maximize performance when needed.

What speeds can be reached on the dune?

Bellyboard rides on the Dragon are safe and fun speeds can easily be managed. For more advanced boarders, super fun adrenalin-pumping maximum speeds of 90 kilometres have been reached.

What sets this adventure apart?

Dragon Dune is 170 metres high and provides rides of up to 350 metres long, which overwhelms all competition in South Africa! Perfectly sloped for this activity, it’s the only dune in South Africa to compare with our world famous neighbourly Namibian dunes. It’s privately owned which means the general public don’t have access. The property is also well maintained and litter-free, so riders are able to reach maximum speeds on smooth slopes where footprints don’t exist. We also accommodate very large groups, and of course, the amazing landscapes make this sandboarding adventure a must!
