The Conrad Maldives Rangali Island’s first underwater villa, Muraka (“coral” in Dhivehi, the local language of the Maldives) will be fully operational in November. It’ll be a unique, luxurious two-level villa that comprises an above-sea residence and an undersea level completely immersed in the ocean, allowing you to enjoy an unobstructed, 180-degree panoramic view of coral and marine life in its natural surroundings and to sleep under the ocean’s surface!
Unsurprisingly, this concept originated from the very team that created Ithaa, the world’s first undersea restaurant launched 13 years ago at Conrad Maldives – the Maldives’ first qualified, professionally trained architect and project director Ahmed Saleem and Auckland-based civil engineer, Mike Murphy, whose company specialises in aquarium design. Award-winning Japanese architect Yuji Yamazaki designed its clutter-free interior space so you can be fully immersed in the wonders of the Indian Ocean.
Conrad Maldives is located in South Ari Atoll, approximately 95 kilometres from the capital. The resort can be reached by a scenic 30-minute seaplane journey from the international airport. A luxury cruise transfer can also be arranged for up to 15 guests on one of their yachts. The transfer takes approximately three hours and cruises from Malé through the atolls directly to Rangali Island.
